Germany is saving the wrong way

German citizens are the savings champions but too risk-averse. It’s not because citizens wouldn’t know better.

Hardly any other people save as much and as badly as the Germans: although the savings rate is record-breakingly high, the national wealth is rather meagre.

"Savings mainly find their way into financial instruments that yield little return," says LBBW Chief Economist Moritz Kraemer. In addition, wealth in Germany is very unevenly distributed.
