This year LBBW will be taking part for the twelfth consecutive time as an exhibitor at SIBOS (SWIFT International Banking Operations Seminar).

214 exhibitors and over 8,000 delegates are expected at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Sydney, Australia, from 22 to 25 October 2018.

Network of know-how carriers and decision-makers

SIBOS is a bank network platform in the form of a conference and exhibition event for the sector that provides an opportunity for direct exchange with the specialists of other international banks. The participants present their international locations and product portfolios, including products and services from the financing, payments, financial market and financial technology (FinTech) sectors. LBBW uses the event for deal initiation and relationship management with its partner banks throughout the world.

SWIFT, the international payments system, organizes the event on 30,000 square meters of exhibition floor space. The event is flanked by a conference with around 300 talks, panels and seminars. The broad range of topics that are discussed against the backdrop of geopolitical and regulatory challenges reflects the current sector dynamic.

Focus on digitalization

This year the focus is on “Enabling the digital economy.” Light is cast on the motivation of banks and financial service providers to place new technologies and joint ventures at the center of their transformational process, but also to re-evaluate and review their distribution models, their service offering and their business relationships.

Under the heading “digitalization” not only are innovations such as blockchain technology looked at, but new standards are also set for data security measures (cybersecurity).

International universal bank with regional roots

A seven-strong delegation led by Torsten Biesel, Head of International Banks & Sovereigns, represents LBBW in Sydney. Four colleagues with responsibility for Banks Growth Markets and Banks Developed Markets from headquarters in Stuttgart and the LBBW branch office in Singapore are also on hand. The FinTech topics and the custody business are represented in the team by Andreas Beck, Head of Back Office Financial Markets. Inga Baldi, Marketing & Event Management Financial Markets / International Business, is responsible for the overall organization and implementation of LBBW’s presence at the event in Sydney.

“SIBOS gives us an opportunity to position ourselves in the world market with our excellent knowledge of markets, customers and products,” reports Torsten Biesel. “We bring our many years of experience to the short- and long-term trade finance business. Together with our bank partners we deploy tailor-made financial solutions to help our corporate clients’ sales efforts, including in cases of global delivery chains. As a flanking measure, we also offer our partners a range of suitable capital market products.”

At the same time, LBBW attaches importance to its regional roots, they set it apart. It is from these roots that its values have grown, such as, for example, the aspiration to build long-term customer relations with a comprehensive advisory approach. LBBW grooms these ties by way of – among other things – constant visibility at important international platforms such as SIBOS. “This is a must-attend event that players in the sector are keen to participate in and which makes it possible to make many senior-level contacts in just a few days,” says Andreas Beck.

What added value does SIBOS offer?

SIBOS offers an opportunity for comprehensive know-how transfer, but also for concrete deal initiation. New potential is identified and existing business relationships are deepened. In many cases it has been possible to follow up on the SIBOS meetings with large, profitable projects. The timetable already schedules 90 meetings at the event stand for the four days in Sydney.

“A potential-oriented follow-up in the form of a standardized, IT-assisted meeting report allows systematic follow-up by our SIBOS team and by corresponding specialists and sales units in Stuttgart,” is how Torsten Biesel sketches out the procedure.

“Since 2015 we have been recording the outcomes of SIBOS talks online in an iPad-based reporting tool.” Torsten Biesel is convinced: “The knowledge gleaned in this way not only allows a good assessment of potential, but also the systematic planning of future event participations.”

LBBW with a “new look”

From the point of view of event manager Inga Baldi, SIBOS is not only something special because of the event venue: “In Sydney we shall be presenting our new corporate design to the international public on a large exhibition space for the first time. The LBBW event stand with its four advisory zones, the service area and its large-scale motifs is a highlight of the new brand image.”

LBBW is looking forward to good talks and inspiring market innovations. You will find LBBW in the ICC at Level 1 Stand E02.
