Basic information

It is important to us to know that you feel safe when visiting and using our website. For this reason, we take the protection of your personal data very seriously. The protection of your privacy during the processing of personal data is one of our key concerns.

Please note that LBBW's web pages contain links to other websites of interest. Our Privacy Policy does not cover these sites. We have no influence on the content and adherence to data protection provisions by the providers of such sites. If you visit another website, please look at the privacy statement applicable to that website.

What are personal, anonymized or pseudonymized data?

Personal data

Personal data consists in the particulars of the personal or material circumstances of a specific or specifiable natural person. They include, for example, a person's name, address, e-mail address or telephone number.

Anonymized or pseudonymized data

Your personal data can be anonymized. This involves changing the data so that it is either not possible to attribute it to a specific person or that the attempt would involve disproportionately great effort. In the case of pseudonymous data the name or other piece of personal information is deleted altogether and substituted.

Collection, storage, use and passing-on of personal data

We collect, store, process and use personal data for the purposes stated:

  • if we need it to help us provide you with our services
  • in order to check whether you are authorized to access protected web pages
  • for registration on our web pages
  • to contact you and
  • to send you information on products and services and to ask you questions in connection with this.
  • Handling of log file data

We greatly value the trust you place in us. For this reason, we protect your personal data very carefully. We use your personal data only for internal purposes and for our business relationship with you and will only pass this data on with your consent, unless we are forced to pass it on to public-sector bodies or authorities as a result of legal provisions or court measures.

All LBBW employees and service providers are obliged to maintain confidentiality as well as banking and data secrecy. Moreover, all employees and service providers must adhere to the data protection provisions and to our guidelines.

Handling of protocol data, IP addresses and cookies

Protocol data:

When you visit our website our web servers store various data, for example:

  • the IP address of your PC (individual "address" of a PC in a computer network)
  • the pages you visit on our website
  • the browser (for example, Internet Explorer) and operating system you use and
  • the date and time of your visit.

We use the data on an anonymized basis for statistical purposes and in order to improve our website. This data cannot be traced back to you. We store the evaluated data on secure systems, This ensures that your privacy is protected at all times.

Cookies:

Cookies are small text files that the web server sends to your PC and are usually stored on your hard disk. They are not programs that can enter your system and cause damage. Although cookies are able to identify your PC, cookies themselves do not store personal data.

We use cookies in interaction with your Internet browser in order to improve all our web pages at http://www.lbbw.de. We use cookies particularly in the real estate and BW online banking businesses (at https://www.bw-bank.de/). Their use results in a range of benefits for you:

The cookies used in our real estate offering make it easier for you to select a property. This is because the favorites function allows you to select several properties at a time. Consequently, you need to fill out the form only once in order to receive detailed information on all selected properties.

BW online banking uses cookies which are valid only for as long as you are actually using BW online banking. The cookies do not contain information on your person or your account. They only support browser navigation. If you logout from BW online banking by pressing the Logout button, the cookie is automatically removed from your PC. These cookies, which are only valid for the duration of a session, are called session cookies.

In the business portal these session cookies are necessary for transactions as certain functions would not be technically possible without them.

Most browsers are set to accept cookies automatically. You can set your browser to disable cookies. Or you can set it to notify you when you receive a cookie. Please note, however, that many functions in the Business Portal require cookies. If you disable cookies, some applications may cease to function properly.

We do not use any technology that links up information in the cookies with your personal data. This means that we are not able to establish your identity or e-mail address. Of course, you can block our cookies. You can configure your browser this way (disable cookies). Please note, however, that if you have disabled the "cookies" function in your browser, you will not be able to use the favorites function in the real estate area. Moreover, the Back button in BW online banking does not work without cookies. Of course, you will be able to use our other information offerings in full without cookies.

IP addresses:

If you visit our website we will store the so-called IP address of your computer for a short period; this is what allows the computer to be clearly identified and accessible. The IP address is a PC's individual "address" in a computer network. It allows you to use our website at any time without having to disclose your data.

Use of our "meine bw-bank.de" platform as a registered member

In the process of registration on our platform we also ask you for your e-mail address, your first name and surname.

We use your e-mail address to complete the registration process in accordance with the conditions of use and to contact you where this is necessary to provide our services in the context of our platform. We will also use your e-mail address to send you information on products and services and to ask you questions using our platform. This is to help us make our services even better.

We will use your first name and surname to address you correctly when communicating with you and, if necessary, to be able to identify you clearly (e.g. in the event of a breach of the conditions of use). The use of any pseudonyms in addition is permitted.

Moreover, log files are created each time you log on as a member on our platform. For details on how we handle these files please see section 9 of this Privacy Policy.

Use of online banking

We offer you various transaction services for your banking operations, for example BW online banking, HBCIbanking and the Business Portal. To use these services, for your own safety you will be requested to enter your personal access data (user name and password) when you log on. This protected login allows us to identify you and so prevent unauthorized use of your accounts.

During transactions (for example, transfers) we store and archive all transaction data so that the transaction can be reconstructed if necessary. In addition to the access data, this includes for instance the amount transferred and data on how you have used the service (for example, with regard to BW online banking).

In the course of the provision of BW Finanzmanager services user data and other customer parameters are stored and evaluated by BW-Bank in accordance with various criteria. By activating the BW Finanzmanager the customer grants BW-Bank the option to analyze and use their account turnover data in order to provide them with suitable offers and product information.

Use of our other offerings on the Internet

We will store your personal data only if you provide the information yourself. This is the case, for example, if

  • you register (for example, for a newsletter)
  • you participate in a survey or a competition
  • you send a query or suggestions using a contact form or via e-mail or
  • you send us an order.

In these cases you communicate your data to us voluntarily. In so doing, you yourself make the decision to give us your name and other personal information (such as date of birth, address, e-mail address or telephone number). You are not obliged to communicate this information to us. But please be aware that we can supply the requested products, services and information only if we know your details.

We will only send you a copy of our newsletter if you have granted us permission to do so. To verify your acceptance, we will send you a link to confirm that you wish to receive the newsletter. Once you have done so, you can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time. Information on how to unsubscribe from the newsletter can be found at the end of the newsletter.

E-mail/contact forms

We will store and use your data if you send us an e-mail or a message via a contact form. This data includes, for example, your name, date of birth, address, e-mail address and telephone number. But we will use your data only for our services and for communicating with you.

Your personal data are protected when you use our transaction services (for example, BW online banking or HBCIbanking). Data transmitted via the Internet is encrypted. Encryption prevents unauthorized persons from viewing your data.

Please note that if you send us personal data in an e-mail, data transmitted in this way via the Internet is not secure. In theory, it is possible for unauthorized persons to read or falsify this information.

BW-Bank branch finder

The BW-Bank branch finder uses the "Google Maps API" map service provided by Google Inc. to locate BW-Bank branches and Sparkassen ATMs and to display them on an interactive map. By using Google Maps, information on the use of our website, including your IP address, is transferred to Google servers in the United States and stored there. Although Google in its own Privacy Policy has made a commitment not to pass on information to third parties it does allow some exceptions. The data collected may be passed on to third parties if there is a legal requirement to do so in the United States or if third parties process the data on behalf of Google. A link to the Privacy Policy of Google Inc. can be found here:

http://www.google.com/policies/privacy/

The fact that we have no control over the destination of your data and that the data is sent to the United States is not unproblematic from a data protection law point of view. Because of the associated risks for your data you have the option to disable the map service and to prevent your data from being transmitted to Google. To do so, please disable Java Script in your browser. In this case you will not be able to use the branch finder.

Revoking permission

You can revoke your permission to use your data for promotional and opinion research purposes at any time. This applies, for example, to any personal data you may have divulged to us during promotions such as competitions. We use the data gained through promotions of this kind to allow us to inform you of our services and products. We also use your data to ask you questions about our products and services. This helps us to make our products even better.

Of course, participation in such promotions is voluntary. If you do not want your data to be used for advertising purposes or in surveys, simply let us know. We will then make a note of your revocation.

You may withdraw your agreement to the collection, processing and use of your personal data at any time. This means that your personal data will be blocked or deleted if, for example, you have given it to us when subscribing to a newsletter. You will then no longer receive our newsletters.

Deletion of this data does not have an impact on your customer data: Information required for your transactions with us (for example, for the maintenance of your accounts) will not be deleted.

Security in the processing of personal data

We always ensure a high degree of security in the collection or processing of your data. LBBW uses effective technical and organizational measures to ensure the security of its data. These measures protect your data against manipulation, loss, destruction and access by unauthorized persons. We are constantly seeking to improve our measures for your security and always adapt them to new technological trends.

Please also take note of our security information

Right of information

Upon request you will receive information concerning all your personal data we have stored, concerning the origin of this data, the recipient or categories of recipients to whom the data is passed on and the purpose of storage, free of charge. You can also have errors and inaccurate data corrected, updated, deleted or blocked.

Web analysis

We store and analyze general data in connection with the use of our website. This data is called statistical data. It includes, for example, the number of visits to our website, information on which pages were visited and on session length. This allows us to find out how our offerings are used and how we can improve individual pages. We evaluate the data on an anonymized basis and use it for statistical purposes and for our market research.

We use Piwik, an Open Source software, for the statistical evaluation of visitor accesses, to collect the data. Piwik uses so-called cookies, text files stored on your computer, which allow an analysis of the way in which you use the website. The information generated by the cookie about your use of the web offerings is stored on our web servers in Germany. The IP address is anonymized immediately after processing, before it is stored. You can prevent the installation of cookies by setting your browser software to block cookies or you can disable the collection of data by Piwik here:

Web analysis with promotional partners

BW-Bank is collaborating with a number of promotional partners in the use of so-called re-targeting technology. This technology means that when you visit our website, cookies of these partner companies (so-called third party cookies) are also stored on your hard drive. These cookies are either permanent or temporary cookies that automatically delete themselves after a predefined period. Like our own cookies, the cookies of our partners do not store any personal data and are not used to identify individual visitors. As part of the delivery of advertising content, an anonymous ID is used to store the following technical measurement criteria:

  • advertising contacts
  • frequency cap (number of advertising contacts)
  • browser (e.g. Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer)
  • operating system (e.g. Windows, Macintosh etc.)
  • date and time of advertising delivery
  • number of ad impressions
  • number of clicks
  • post-tracking data

Facebook users should note that this website uses the Facebook communication tool Website Custom Audiences. To do so, so-called Facebook pixels have been integrated on our websites, which mark you as a visitor to our website in an anonymized form, i.e. without identifying you personally. If you subsequently log onto Facebook, an irreversible and thus non-personal checksum (profile) from your user data will be transmitted to Facebook for analysis and marketing purposes. Further information on the purpose and scope of data collection and further processing and use of the data by Facebook and your setting options to protect your privacy can be found in Facebook's Privacy Policy, which is set out at https://www.facebook.com/ads/website_custom_audiences/ and https://www.facebook.com/privacy/explanation. If you wish to object to the use of Facebook Website Custom Audiences you can do so here https://www.facebook.com/ads/website_custom_audiences/.

You can object to the storage of cookies at any time by refusing to accept cookies in your browser settings. To do this, you normally select "Block cookies" in your browser settings. For further details please use the Help function of your browser. You can delete cookies stored on your computer at any time without this having any negative impact on the use or functions of our website.

According to Section 15 of the German Telemedia Act as amended, you as website visitor have the right to object to the storage of your visitor data (which has been collected in anonymized form) with future effect. To do so please click on the following link:

Use of YouTube videos

Some of our web pages have embedded videos uploaded to YouTube. YouTube is a service of US company Google Inc. For this reason, the so-called "enhanced data protection mode" has been activated for all YouTube videos on our web pages. This enhanced data protection mode makes YouTube available and thus guarantees that YouTube does not store cookies with personal data on your computer so long as no video has been clicked and played using the YouTube video player. The IP address is transferred when the web pages are called up and to embed the videos. The IP address cannot be allocated unless you have logged onto YouTube or another Google service before calling up the web page or unless you are logged on permanently.

As soon as you start replaying an embedded YouTube video by clicking on it, YouTube via the enhanced data protection mode will store on your computer only cookies that include no personally identifiable data. These cookies can be blocked by use of the corresponding browser settings and extensions.

Further information on the embedding of YouTube videos can be found in the privacy notices of YouTube.

New developments

The rapid development of the Internet makes it necessary for us to amend our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will inform you of any amendments on this page.

We recommend that you check our pages regularly for amendments. You can be certain of being always correctly informed. All amendments to the Privacy Policy apply only to future applications. We will not change the guidelines retroactively, unless the legislator demands it.
